"Harlem Nights: Unsung Heroes" with BD Stellmacher

"Harlem Nights: Unsung Heroes" celebrates the extraordinary individuals whose creativity,
resilience, and vision fueled the Harlem Renaissance while remaining largely absent from
history’s spotlight. Through BD Stellmacher's signature practice of combining layered fabrics with acrylic
paint, each portrait becomes a textured tribute to the era itself along with poets, musicians,
educators, and community leaders who shaped a cultural movement that continues to
influence generations.

Fabric is central to this work, symbolizing memory, heritage, and the interconnected threads of
Black history. Every piece is constructed to reveal that our collective story is layered; stitched
together through faith, perseverance, and artistic expression.

Rather than simply recreating historical portraits, this exhibition reimagines these remarkable
figures through a contemporary lens, inviting viewers to rediscover their enduring legacy.
"Harlem Nights: Unsung Heroes" is both an act of remembrance and a celebration, honoring
those whose contributions deserve to be seen, remembered, and woven permanently into our
shared cultural narrative.
